For most of us, laundry occupies the first position in the list of household jobs, which nobody wants to do. In fact, it is one such job for which we would prefer hiring someone to help. Especially, if you have kids at home, stains make laundry even harder.
There are many conventional laundry stain treatment solutions, but most of them include toxic cleaning products. They consist of chemicals, detergents, and solvents that can affect one’s health negatively. However, if you want to get rid of laundry stains without hampering your loved ones’ health then, the best option is to go natural.
When it comes to removing stains, you should treat them as fast as you can. Two things that help a stain hold on your clothes are heat and time. If possible, you must wash your clothes as early as possible. Letting it sit for a long time will give more time for the stain to settle. You must at least wash out the stain quickly and soak the cloth in saltwater for some time.
The salt helps in breaking down the stain. One of the best things about saltwater is it does not face away from the fabric. Before drying it make sure the stain is completely removed.
Just like the natural food we eat, prefer using natural cleaning products that are non-toxic. It is better for both the environment and us. There are large numbers of “natural” products using which you can get rid of laundry stains in no time. Few of them are:
- Baking Soda- Baking soda is one of nature’s greatest gifts for laundry use. It produces a fresh smell and is also safe for all kinds of fabric. It helps in enhancing detergent performance, softening the fabrics and lessening foams for faster loads in the front load washing machines.
- Lime juice- Lemon juice is the best ingredient for removing the underarm stains. For this, you must mix equal parts of water and lemon juice. For removing ink stains, you can apply lemon juice directly on the cloth or can use a paste of lemon juice with cream of tartar, preferably as fast as they occur. Once done, wash in cold water. If you have got rust stains, apply a paste of salt and lemon juice and dry it under sunlight.
- Chalk, cornstarch or talcum- Plain white chalk, baby powder, kitchen cornstarch, and talcum powder are great natural elements for removing oil stains from clothes. Just sprinkle baby powder, cornstarch or talcum powder on that specific area. Keep it like that for at least ten minutes so that the oil gets absorbed, then use a brush to remove the powders. After that, wash or dry clean the cloth.
- White wine-If by chance red wine spills over your cloth then, pour a small amount of white wine over it. This will counteract it. Blot using a clean absorbent towel from the outer area. This prevents spreading.
- Coconut oil- Apply some coconut oil over the spot. It will help in loosening the stain. You can also mix coconut oil and baking soda for best results.
