Ways to Clean a Microfiber Couch

Microfiber is the right material for couches as it gives the feeling of suede but is much cheap. It is also easier to clean if you know how to do it. In order to clean your microfiber sofa or any item made of microfiber, follow the below-mentioned tips.

Stains and Spots

If you have just a few spots here and there, try to remove them by rubbing artist’s gum- a powerful easer on it. You can find this eraser at various art supply stores. You can also make use of an emery board, like the one that you generally use on your fingernails. The only thing that you need to do is gently rub the file across the stain a few times. The mess will be removed for sure.

Stop the stains before they begin

The moment you spill something over a couch, think fast. Take some baking soda and apply on the spot instantly. Baking soda absorbs grease and other liquids and will keep staining away. You must pour enough baking soda so that the entire soiled area gets covered and allow it to sit for 15 minutes. Once done, vacuum up. Repeat the process, if necessary.

Brushing and vacuuming

The tight entwine of thickly packed microfibers helps in keeping the allergens and dirt from penetrating the fabric, but it does not mean that you need to vacuum microfiber furniture daily. Keep your microfiber couch looking good with vacuuming regularly. Make use of a bristled upholstery attachment for removing the dirt and brush the nap of microfiber at the same time, which will keep it soft. If you prefer to brush the microfiber on days when you do not vacuum, use a soft and nylon-bristled scrub.

Rubbing alcohol

Though microfiber is designed to repel water, tending to spill fast helps in preventing the formation of tell-tale watermarks. Blot liquid from your microfiber couch with a plain white cloth, pressing the cloth on the down and lifting it straight instead of rubbing. In order to get rid of watermarks and stains, fill one bottle with alcohol, spritz the strain and rub using a sponge. Allow the alcohol for air drying and speed up the procedure with a blow dryer. After it gets dried up, brush the area with a dry and non-bristled scrub brush.

How to clean the super dirty couch made of microfiber

If you have black marks on the microfiber sofa caused due to food spills, dirty hands, and other disasters, there are ways to get rid of those. There are two kinds of microfiber, and they must be cleaned in two different ways. First, you must vacuum the couch or any other item using a soft brush attachment to suck up any type of loose debris and dust. Following this, check the tag on the couch. If there is “W” written on the tad, you can continue and use a mixture of soap and water to clean it.

If the microfiber items have “S” written on it then, you must use a solvent-based cleaner as water can even stain the fabric. Spray rubbing alcohol on any soiled areas using the spray bottle. Scrub using the rough sponge or old toothbrush, and the stains will lift off. The fabric must dry quickly, but if it seems discoloured or hardened afterwards, just stroke it with a soft scrub or toothbrush until it gets back to its actual velvety form.
