Smelly Towels? What are the ways to fix it?

by Admin01151

Whether your bath towels smell weird or if they are not as absorbent as they earlier used to be, this 3 -step procedure discussed here is the solution you have been looking for!

So, you have noticed that your bath towels are smelling a bit off. Or maybe you have noticed that your towels are not simply as absorbent as they were during the past days. Or there are possibilities that you might have noticed both these things. While these may seem like bad omens for the towels, don’t give up hope! As there is a simple fix for both these problems, as both the problems have the same cause, i.e. build-up of detergent and fabric softener.

How does this method work?

This process uses white vinegar and baking soda to dissolve all the problem causing build-up lurking in the towels. Vinegar consists of acetic acid, which helps in breaking the mineral deposits and dissolve all kinds of grime. And baking soda is alkaline in nature, which helps in neutralizing the smells while dissolving grease and dirt!

Using them back-to-back as discussed below is a simple way to eliminate various potential sources of odour and build up as efficiently as possible. And here is the process of how you can do this at home.

How to fix the smelly towels in 3 steps

Step 1- For this, you will need 1 cup white vinegar and a ½ cup of baking soda. Place the towels in your washing machine along with 1 cup of white vinegar. Begin a wash cycle on the hottest water setting that your machine provides.

Step 2- Baking soda wash: Once the wash cycle is completed, leave the towels in the washing machine. Put a ½ cup of baking soda over the towels and start a second hot water wash cycle.

Step 3- Dry it totally: After the second wash is done, ensure that your dry your towels thoroughly. You can either put them in the dryer, hang them on the clothesline, or the way you prefer.

This one-two punch of baking soda and vinegar should solve the odour and mildew issues. If you find the towels are still smelly after following these steps then, while repeating these steps again you should be careful. Now that you know how to restore the freshness in the towels, let us discuss how to keep them at bay. Here are a few tips using which you can keep your towels clean and smell fresh.

Ensure that your towels are totally dry before you fold them and put them away. Even a small amount of moisture can make the towels smell sour! After drying off after a shower or bath, make sure to hang your towel up for drying. Be sure that you are using the right amount of detergent. Excess detergent leaves behind a residue on towels, mainly in high-efficiency washers that utilize less water.
