Tips to Keep Your Home Pest-Free

The next time you see a cockroach in your kitchen, no need to call the Pest Control folks… Here are a few all-natural tips that will help you to keep your home safe from pests, without using any type of harsh poisonous chemicals.

Use Essential oils

As far as eliminating pests naturally is concerned, essential oils are your best friend. Most of the insects don’t like the pungent smell of herbs and oils and will never come near to them. You need to mix 25 drops of essential oil with 1 cup of water or spirit. Once the mixture is ready, transfer the liquid in a spray bottle and spray all over the house liberally. Peppermint, tea tree oil, eucalyptus oil, lavender oil, and lemongrass are the most common pest repellents can keep the ticks, mosquitos, fleas, and ants away.

Get rid of flies

If you are tired of using several options for getting rid of flies, but of no use then, grow basil in pots and keep it on the kitchen window. You can also keep sprigs of dried basil inside the muslin pouches inside your kitchen cabinets. As it is difficult for the flies to survive in an area with the smell of basil, they will keep themselves away.

Keep away the ants

Mix powdered sugar and borax. Sprinkle the powder along the pathway of ants. Within a couple of days, you will find there will be no ants in your house. If the powder is not effective then, you can add maple syrup or honey and make a thick paste. Cover the surface where there are ants with this paste. An important thing that you should keep in mind while using this mixture is to make sure your pets like dogs and cats do not consume it as its dangerous for them. You can get rid of ants by sprinkling used coffee grounds on the ant trail, mainly at the entry points and window sills.

Spiders

Spiders will take a wide diversion from any corners of your house. To get rid of this, you can spray unsweetened lime juice mixed with water on the spider web and keep the dried citrus peels in the corners where they are loitering. Wipe your countertops with lemon juice once in a week to keep your area sparkling.

Bye-bye to bugs

Ants and tiny bugs can be eliminated by cleaning the surfaces with a mix of water and white vinegar. While this solution keeps insects away, it can also be used for cleaning stains and food particles from the kitchen knobs, oven, and microwave. Most of the people are not aware of the fact that white vinegar is one of the best disinfectants that kill bacteria fast. While cleaning, keep on changing the water when it gets dirty.

Prevent mosquitoes with citronella

Citronella essential oil is the best mosquito repellent and has a lovely smell that keeps your home smell fresh for a long time. It is one of the vital ingredients used in herbal mosquito sprays.
